Did you know there is a city code on proper height requirements for trees/vegetation over city streets and sidewalks?
According to Section 4-6-185: "It shall be unlawful for any owner, occupant or person in charge of any Premises to: (1)Allow the branches of any Tree to extend over or into a public Street or Alley at a height less than fourteen and one-half (14½) feet; (2)Allow the branches of any Tree to extend over a public sidewalk at a height of less than seven (7) feet.”
We have received several calls from customers stating they have received letters from the city notifying them that they are not in compliance. If you are unsure if your trees meet the City requirements, please give us a call to have an arborist assist you in this matter. Not only is pruning your trees helping you to obey the law, but pruning annually is imperative to the health of your tree! Fall is the beginning of dormancy for most trees and shrubs, so now is a great time to prune.
The vast majority of trees you see here are not native to this area. A natural consequence of our grassland environment is an outward spreading growth pattern, but pruning encourages healthy vertical growth.
If you still aren't convinced, here are a few more benefits to pruning:
● Improve Appearance ● Hazard & Property Damage Prevention ● Encourage Healthy Growth Patterns ● Control Growth Direction ● Promote Flowering & Fruit Production ● Increase Light Penetration & Air Circulation ● Overall Health of the Tree ● Structural Integrity
